Irvin D. Yalom, Love's Executioner
I am a qualified counsellor, who specialises in working with trauma and abuse, narcissistic abuse, childhood trauma, neurodiversity, grief & loss, depression, anxiety, gender, sexuality and many other things.
Counselling and Psychotherapy in itself has helped millions of people heal from trauma.
However, the Mental Health systems that currently exist are not meeting the needs of the population; leaving many, many individuals feeling lost, frightened and feeling alone with their issues.
So it makes sense that society is now looking at 'alternative and holistic therapies' for solutions and healing.
Counselling has existed for centuries; but it's roots are deeply embedded in shamanistic and spiritual practices. Whereas our current medical system is restricted to 'the medical model' which is largely clinical, pharmaceutical-based and has existed for about a 100 years.
I have had so many clients who have felt invalidated by professionals and their spiritual experiences have been laughed at, mocked or called ‘psychosis’ which is deeply damaging to those individuals seeking help, and can at times result in clients not reaching out for support for fear of not being taken seriously.
So how is Spiritual Counselling different?
Spiritual Counselling recognises that we are deeply spiritual beings trying to navigate a complex human experience.
In session we welcome in all parts of you, and learn to listen to and connect with our inner guidance, our ancestors, our guides; as well as explore different healing modalities.
We are both physical form and energetic beings. So when we work together, I use a trauma-informed approach.
Being trauma informed means to look not solely at your symptoms only; but at what happened to you to cause your symptoms; which can be both physical or energetic such as soul loss.
We then start the process of resource gathering; which means what self care practices and support can you enlist to support you whilst you are healing and slowly unpacking your trauma.
I try to work as flexibly as possible. So can offer in-person or online sessions via Zoom if we need to work remotely.
Sessions times, duration and length are variable depending on what level and type of support you need.
